Bhante Wimala Awarded Peace Ambassador “Samadutha” Award

In recognition of the spiritual teachings and humanitarian projects of Bhante Wimala, the Upcountry Amarapura Supreme Monks Council of Sri Lanka recently awarded him the prestigious “Samadutha” Peace award. At a special monks council meeting, held on the 14th of March in the hill country town of Nuwara Eliya, Bhante received this award in the presence of more than 40 monks. Bhante’s teacher, the Venerable Y. Sumana Nayaka Thera, and several other honored guests also participated in the ceremony. The following is the inscription on this special award:

Peace Ambassador “Samadutha” Award

On this 14th Day of March in the Year of 2010,

this prestigious honor is bestowed upon

Venerable Bhante Y Wimala Thero

an internationally renowned traveling Buddhist monk

in recognition of his selfless and unstinting service

over a period of 26 years,

translating the teachings of the Buddha into compassionate action

through countless and well thought out humanitarian work

combined with

a priceless gift of spiritual values

at the most needy hour to the most needy people

within Sri Lanka and world over.
