Reviews of Lessons of the Lotus

I’m sure the book will be a real winner, for, truly it has universal appeal, and it entertains as well as greatly informs, and, yes, it sometimes even ‘shocks’. Well, it surely stirs to wakefulness the inquiring mind, especially if the reader hasn’t been exposed to the Buddhist views of life and death, results and consequences, joy and sadness, and the formulae for inner peace.

The wonderful thing is that you wrote the book your very own way, so that it doesn’t appear to be contrived or manufactured.

Would you pass along a message to the editor for me? As I mentioned to you, I found Lessons of the Lotus a delightful book, full of gentle humor. I think the author did a wonderful job of presenting the main principles of Buddhism so that many Western readers will find them comprehensible, intriguing, and, above all, useful. I’d like to request that the editor send me a copy for my own use when the book is published.

Thanks for letting me work on this; it’s been a privilege. (I don’t often feel that way about a mass-market book!)

Dear Bhante Wimala,

I am writing to introduce myself and thank you for writing Lessons of the Lotus, which I have just finished reading. I am thirty-seven years old. I am a registered nurse and the mother of two young boys, step-mother of two young adults. My husband is a Lutheran pastor in a small local congregation.

Your book was loaned to me bu a co-worker who said, "this book changed my life!" Naturally, I was eager to read it. I am pleased to say that I found your writing refreshing and enlightening. I ruely enjoy familiarizing myself with other cultures, beliefs, lifestyles, etc.

Amazingly enough, the more I do, the more I am able to see and know how similar we truely are. I believe that the differences we do display are beautiful decorations that can stimulate us and help us to grow.

I loved your words on page 202 (overcoming prejudice), "I see eager, caring, conscious people who are both struggling and playing with the same issues as everybody else."

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and inspiring myself and others with your wonderful book.

Theresa DiMatteo
