| Just after tsunami, while the death toll was still
rising, there was a great fear of spread of disease.
Fortunately the predictions were wrong, but that concern
is still there. Disease prevention remains of critical
importance, especially minimizing the spread of mosquito
and water-borne illness.
Recently, when I was visiting a refugee camp, a
father walked up to me with a small child and showed
me his arms and legs. They were full of mosquito
bites. I traveled to some camps in the night and
experienced myself the problem of mosquitoes. We
have donated mosquito nets to many families and
will continue to provide nets to as many families
as we
can.
We also have arranged and supervised distribution
of the most necessary
medicines. I have been able to help direct available
doctors and health care organizations to areas with
the greatest need. Our efforts of providing health
care and medical equipment will continue as long
as we can.
