Poetry Written By The Tsunami Refugees of Kalmunai

We lost the lives of our loved ones,
Our belongings and properties
to the tsunami tidal waves

We all were made orphans
with much mental worries and suffering
Living in a crowded refugee camp,
loitering in the streets.

We cried for help but blamed nobody,
Our shattered lives had no peace,
and was left in uncertainty.

Along came you, Venerable Bhante Wimala,
to rescue us
and free us from our suffering

We worship you and praise you
in the name of almighty

You are the leader of the temporary housing facilities,
with so much love and care
you built temporary homes
for so many suffering families
who were crying for help.

Houses were put up line by line,
and families were settled,
We were helped in many other ways,
Now we live there peacefully
With gratitude forever in our hearts.

Venerable Bhante Wimala,
we praise you and pray for you everyday,
We wish you the blessings
and pure love of almighty.

Yours faithfully,
Tsunami Refugees of Kalmunai, IE

Words Of Gratitude Deep In Our Hearts

The country Sri Lanka surrounded by sea
With shells and oysters splendor
Is now a mega cemetery with dead bodies.

On its coast all over
by the tsunami disaster
all our houses destroyed
and properties washed off,
women and children paid most their price for offenses
not committed.

Dead bodies piled up in heaps
of dear and near ones,
We were left alone and one came to our rescue,
Yet it is Ven. Yatirawana Wimala (Bhante)
The Buddhist monk of America
Who came and helped in our time of need,
Hats off to you sir.

You provided shelters for us destitute,
a nd served us looking for no gratitude,
as a redeemer in our needs.

In this world where unholy men are in holy order
In this world where the injustice is justified
by guns and pumps and show,
You came with a kind heart expecting no reward,
To serve us: To help us from America in our time of need.

We see you as the spiritual leader
Another Lord Buddha with a benevolent heart
and words of solace and deep love to us destitute.

Murder, thuggery, rape and robbery,
became rampant in Lanka recently.
It went up to a high degree undue,
Is it the nature that has taken a serious view?

Born in Kandy, the heart of Sri Lanka,
a long way you came to us,
You nourished our wounded hearts with your kind words and deeds benevolent,
We bow our heads for the services rendered.

Praying the Almighty to bless you with long life,
To serve this world where more like us need you,
The longer life, the longer life
Yes, we pray for you
