Humanitarian Award from Asian Development Foundation College

On the 11th of April, Bhante Wimala received The Asian Development Foundation College Humanitarian Award. He received the award from Dr. Edward Chua, the President of the college at a special event organized in the public library in Tacloban City in The Philippines.

Following is an excerpt from the talk delivered by Dr. Edward Chua:

“For Bhante Wimala it was a calling to help people. It was a blessing to us that he came to help the people who were devastated by Typhoon Yolanda and those who were suffering due to the devastation.

He was among the first to respond with humanitarian aid. He was among the first to distribute construction material and rebuild homes here in Bliss Sankaha. When other NGOs were sorting out things, when other NGOs were planning and starting to coordinate, he was already there providing the necessary help. Rev. Wimala’s approach and system were very simple. He walked around the devastated area and visited families and saw the actual conditions, recognized the problems, and provided what they needed. What he is doing here is real emergency response.”
