Parliamentary Friendship Association

On the 13th of December, 2010, Bhante participated in the first meeting of the Sri Lanka -Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Association. The event was organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy and was attended by 15 members of the Kenyan Parliament, most of who chair various parliamentary committees.  Also in attendance were the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner who organized the event.

On arrival, the members of the Kenyan parliament and special guests participated in lighting the traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp. Before starting the meeting Bhante led them in a short meditation and blessed the occasion. The members elected Hon. Mbau as the president and also elected two vice presidents.

Our Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Hon. Jayantha Dissanayake, is keen on promoting diplomatic and commercial relationships with Kenya, and is now working on making the Sri Lanka-Kenya Association an official entity.
