Rebuilding a War Torn Village

Ten months have passed since the end of 30 year war in Sri Lanka. Our efforts to promote ethnic harmony and help those who were affected by war still continue. One of our long term projects is to rebuild a village which was completely destroyed by war and resettle the villagers who abandoned the village 18 years ago. We are very glad to let you know that reconstruction of the village will soon be completed and we are planning to celebrate the completion of the construction on the 9th of May and re-open the village.

Rebuilding a village with 35 brand new permanent homes was a big challenge. There were a few discouraging moments when we ran into problems with our first contractor. I am very grateful to the General Manager of CECB, Central Engineering Consulting Bureau, Mr.Patmasiri who took up the project and supervised the construction site. In order to complete the contracted work by May 9th over 75 people including engineers and designers are busy at the site.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the end of war I will be visiting Sri Lanka and participating in the dedication ceremony of the Thirappanmaduwa village. Our main sponsor of the village, Mr. Anura Perera, is expected to participate in the dedication ceremony.
