Ruby

Ruby is six years old. When I met her in the village of Sagkahan during my typhoon relief work in Philippines, she was living with her grandmother. Her grandmother explained to me that Ruby’s mother is single and does not have a permanent job. Ruby often misses school because it is a few kilometers away and her mother cannot afford to pay for her transportation. As she is too young to travel alone, she needed to be accompanied which added to the cost.

Since a private school is just walking distance away from Ruby’s home in this poor village I made arrangements for her to start school immediately. I promised the school that I would pay her fees later. The school director agreed and Ruby is already attending the school.

When I mentioned Ruby’s case to Rev. Carol Lawson, she enthusiastically agreed to sponsor the girl and pay the school fees. I am grateful to Rev. Carol and the Center for Spiritual Living congregation in Moorestown, New Jersey for sponsoring this young girl and paying Ruby’s fees for one year. The Center and Rev. Carol have been supporting our humanitarian efforts for many years and I appreciate their kindness and ongoing support.
