September 2007 College and University Tour in the U.S.

Bhante’s college and university tour this year was coordinated in cooperation with the prison tour.  It opened with Bhante invited to give the sermon at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Gettysburg.  Late that evening, Bhante led the Buddhist meditation group sponsored by the UUC.

Bhante was invited for the sixth time to be a guest lecturer at Mount St. Mary’s University.  This year, Bhante spoke on comparative religion and mysticism.  Bhante also gave two lectures and a public meditation talk on Inner Peace at McDaniel College in Maryland.  Bhante then went on to Penn State, Mount Alto Campus to meet with students in the commons area for a great dialogue on Buddhism, monasticism and religion.  In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Bhante met with several classes and gave an autobiographical lecture and a lecture on Buddhist philosophy and human nature at Gettysburg College.  Later that evening, in the college planetarium, Bhante gave a public meditation.

Bhante’s final visit was to the campus of Harrisburg Community College to report on the status of the Tsunami Relief projects which students had donated over $3,000 for Bhante’s efforts.  Bhante also spoke to the comparative philosophy and religion class on Buddhism.
